Habibar Rahman joins ILRI as new regional representative for South Asia

Habibar RahmanThe International Research Institute (ILRI) is pleased to introduce H Rahman as its new regional representative for South Asia from 3 April 2017.

Prior to his appointment, Rahman was deputy director general of the animal science division at the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR).

Previously, he played senior roles in the ICAR National Institute of Veterinary Epidemiology and Disease Informatics (NIVEDI), the ICAR Research Complex of North Eastern Hill Region, Gangtok and Shillong. He was also head of the veterinary public health division of the Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Bareilly.

Rahman has a BVSc and Animal Husbandary from Assam Agricultural University, MVSc from Punjab Agricultural University and a PhD in microbiology and public health from Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology. He pursued his postdoctoral training at the Robert Koch Institute, Germany and the University of Utah, Salt Lake City, USA. He brings to ILRI 30 years’ of global research experience covering many aspects of veterinary science, especially the role of animal health for improved productivity. He has a substantial publication record, has supervised many students and is a recipient of several national awards.

He will be based at the ILRI South Asia regional office in New Delhi.
