These gender-responsive solutions from the workshop will be raised to policymakers and development practitioners. And, if well implemented, would help women gain more benefits from slices of the livestock pie. Three scientists from South Asia are taking part in a six-week research visit at the Joint Laboratory on Livestock and Forage Genetic Resources (JLLFGR) in Beijing, China. ILRI research to shape pig breeding policy in Nagaland, India
Last month (15 December 2015), ILRI researchers and agriculture sector partners in Nagaland discussed the process of ‘framing a pig breeding policy’ in the state at a workshop that reviewed current evidence from ongoing pig farming research. The meeting also generated recommendations for a pig breeding policy in the state, which among other goals, aims to develop pig breeds/cross-breeds that are adaptable, productive and appropriate for the smallholder pig farmers in Nagaland. New agreement between ILRI and Vietnam’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development focuses on long-term partnership
A new agreement between the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) in Vietnam will boost efforts towards improving the competitiveness and livelihoods of smallholder livestock farmers in the country.
The revised memorandum of understanding (MoU), which was signed on 17 August 2015 in Hanoi, will increase cooperation between MARD and ILRI in livestock sector research and development in Vietnam. Continue reading
