Vijayalakshmy Kennady, a scientist working with the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) in New Delhi, India, was on 3 November 2019 awarded the Sushila Pathak Memorial Award for best master’s degree thesis in veterinary sciences 2017 at the inaugural National Conference on Livelihood Improvement through Sustainable Livestock Production.
On 13 and 14 November 2018, the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) convened a regional workshop with partners from Bangladesh, India, Nepal and Pakistan. Together with ILRI senior staff and scientists, participants from public and private institutions reviewed country development outcomes, agricultural priorities and constraints and potential contributions of the livestock sector in the region.
The International Research Institute (ILRI) is pleased to welcome Long Pham and Thang Nguyen as new PhD fellows in East and Southeast Asia from 1 January 2018.

On 20 June 2017, Jimmy Smith, director general of the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) along with Habibar Rahman, ILRI’s regional representative for South Asia, visited the International Centre for Foot and Mouth Disease (ICFMD), a state-of-the-art high containment BSL3Ag laboratory facility in Bhubaneswar, India.
At the workshops, the project team reported key results of PigRISK achieved from June 2012 to May 2017 which focused on assessing food safety issues such as microbiological risk assessment of Salmonella, assessment of heavy metals and antibiotics residue in carcasses and feed, risk factors of contaminations along the value chains; and overall assessment of animal (pig) production and health.
