Held on 4 August 2017 in Nghe An Province, the discussion explored ways in which appropriate policies, strategies and institutional arrangements can spur smallholder pig production and food safety in the country. The meeting was funded by the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) and co-organized by the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), the Vietnam National University of Agriculture (VNUA) and the Hanoi University of Public Health (HUPH). Exploring ways of uplifting pig farmers’ livelihoods in northwest Vietnam

On 30 May 2017, the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) and the Vietnam National University of Agriculture (VNUA) co-hosted a stakeholder workshop in Hanoi, Vietnam. At the workshop, participants discussed research findings from a scoping study on improving pig value chains in the region and the objectives of a new research project which will assess how smallholder farmers in northwest Vietnam can add value to pig production by using maize grains as feed.
