South–South cooperation on pig production: ILRI Vietnam holds study tour for India’s Nagaland officials

Recently, ILRI researchers in Vietnam hosted officials of the Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry (V&AH) of the Government of Nagaland, India, in a week-long (12–18 June 2016) study tour of pig production systems in Vietnam.

The goal of the visit was to share learning and experiences of community-level pig breeding and service delivery systems and to learn about the operations of the pig value chain in Vietnam. The exchange would support knowledge exchange between the pig sector players in the two countries. Continue reading

Multi-stakeholder consultation forum proposed to transform the Bihar dairy sector

Despite the crucial role played by dairy development plays in strengthening the economy and job creation in rural Bihar, milk productivity has hardly increased in decades. Recent increases in milk production have been driven by increases in the number of animals. A study at the International Livestock Research Institute, published in January 2016, sets out the challenges facing the sector and suggests a way forward, the establishment of a multi-stakeholder consultation forum/platform to share and discuss the nature of interventions each organization is undertaking in the dairy livestock sector.
