South–South cooperation on pig production: ILRI Vietnam holds study tour for India’s Nagaland officials
Recently, ILRI researchers in Vietnam hosted officials of the Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry (V&AH) of the Government of Nagaland, India, in a week-long (12–18 June 2016) study tour of pig production systems in Vietnam.
The goal of the visit was to share learning and experiences of community-level pig breeding and service delivery systems and to learn about the operations of the pig value chain in Vietnam. ILRI pork safety project holds mid-term review in Vietnam
In March 2016 the PigRisk project, which focuses on food safety and pork value chains, held its mid-term review. This five-year project (2012–2017) aims to improve the livelihoods of rural and urban poor in Vietnam by creating better opportunities and incomes from pig value chains as a result of reduced risks associated with pork-borne diseases. The project is led by the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) and funded by the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR). Continue reading

In a meeting held 8-10 October 2015, the two institutes identified areas of mutual interest such as food safety, zoonotic diseases and animal nutrition as opportunities for developing joint proposals and projects.

ILRI@40 celebrations in Hanoi focus on opportunities for ‘One Health’ in livestock research
This year (2014) is a milestone for the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) as it marks 40 years of livestock research. On 1 October, ILRI headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya marked ‘ILRI@40’ with a conference on livestock-based options for development.
Two weeks later, on 13 October, ILRI in East and Southeast Asia celebrated 40 years of ILRI’s research by holding a gala dinner at Melia Hotel in Hanoi, Vietnam on the sidelines of a three-day One Health workshop, which ILRI co-organized. Continue reading
