A two-day workshop, 20-21 April 2022, kicked off the One-CGIAR initiative on Sustainable Animal Productivity for Livelihoods, Nutrition and Gender Inclusion (or SAPLING) in Son La Province, Northwest Vietnam. The workshop brought together about 80 key stakeholders from Son La province including local authorities, farmers, private sector actors and the research program team to find ways to transform the livestock sector in Northwest Vietnam and make it more productive, resilient, equitable and sustainable. Art exhibition showcases artist and farmer view of livestock development in Vietnam

Exploring ways of uplifting pig farmers’ livelihoods in northwest Vietnam
On 30 May 2017, the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) and the Vietnam National University of Agriculture (VNUA) co-hosted a stakeholder workshop in Hanoi, Vietnam. At the workshop, participants discussed research findings from a scoping study on improving pig value chains in the region and the objectives of a new research project which will assess how smallholder farmers in northwest Vietnam can add value to pig production by using maize grains as feed. New report on economic potential of avocado, beef, pepper and cassava value chains in Vietnam
A market study of the avocado, pepper, cassava and beef cattle value chains in Vietnam was recently completed. Funded by the CGIAR Research Program on Integrated Systems for the Humid Tropics (Humidtropics), the study was conducted in November 2014 by agricultural economists and researchers from ILRI, Tay Nguyen University and Western Highlands Agriculture and Forestry Science Institute.
