Exploring ways of uplifting pig farmers’ livelihoods in northwest Vietnam

On 30 May 2017, the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) and the Vietnam National University of Agriculture (VNUA) co-hosted a stakeholder workshop in Hanoi, Vietnam. At the workshop, participants discussed research findings from a scoping study on improving pig value chains in the region and the objectives of a new research project which will assess how smallholder farmers in northwest Vietnam can add value to pig production by using maize grains as feed. New report on economic potential of avocado, beef, pepper and cassava value chains in Vietnam

A market study of the avocado, pepper, cassava and beef cattle value chains in Vietnam was recently completed. Funded by the CGIAR Research Program on Integrated Systems for the Humid Tropics (Humidtropics), the study was conducted in November 2014 by agricultural economists and researchers from ILRI, Tay Nguyen University and Western Highlands Agriculture and Forestry Science Institute. ILRI research to shape pig breeding policy in Nagaland, India

Last month (15 December 2015), ILRI researchers and agriculture sector partners in Nagaland discussed the process of ‘framing a pig breeding policy’ in the state at a workshop that reviewed current evidence from ongoing pig farming research. The meeting also generated recommendations for a pig breeding policy in the state, which among other goals, aims to develop pig breeds/cross-breeds that are adaptable, productive and appropriate for the smallholder pig farmers in Nagaland.
